The MG A is a sports car produced from 1955 to 1962. Up to production ceasing in July 1962, only 5,869 cars were sold to the home market making it the lowest percentage of British car sold to its own market.
The MG A represented a complete styling break from MG’s earlier sports car. With its enveloping shape and all steel body, it was praised for its beautiful styling, good handling and road holding, and high reliability.
It was raced extensively in the U.S since its 1955 introduction and achieved considerable success. The MG A remains popular amongst the American market today.
In 1955, an early 1500 open car was tested by The Motor where it achieved a top speed of 97.8mph and could accelerate from 0-60mph in 16.0 seconds.
This particular car has benefited from a number of sensible upgrades to provide a more comfortable and reliable touring car.
